Dozens of Hurriyet leaders arrested in IHK

Anti-India demo after military vehicle hits boy

Srinagar, June 12 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the Indian police arrested dozens of Hurriyet leaders and activists including Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Zafar Akbar Butt, Yasmeen Raja, Muhammad Yousuf Naqash and Javed Ahmad Mir to prevent them from proceeding towards the UN Observers Office in Srinagar, today.

The APHC leaders were intercepted by the police near Pratap Park when they were peacefully marching to submit a memorandum addressed to the United Nations Secretary General.

The Hurriyet leaders had demanded of the UN to conduct investigation into the killing of hundreds of Kashmiri youth including students by Indian troops and police personnel during the 2008 and 2010 uprising and thousands of enforced disappearances in the territory. The Hurriyet leaders were kept at Kothi Bagh Police Station in Srinagar.

The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad Yasin Malik, speaking at a function at his residence in Srinagar said that India was projecting the Kashmiris’ struggle as foreign-sponsored movement, but uprising in 2008 and 2010 had contradicted the New Delhi’s propaganda.

The APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a telephonic talk with the Pakistan’s outgoing High Commissioner in New Delhi, Mr Shahid Malik, thanked him for his all-out support to the Kashmir cause.

Scores of people took to streets after a 10th class student was deliberately hit and critically injured by an Indian Army vehicle at Rafiabad in Baramulla district. The protesters raised pro-freedom and anti-India slogans and blocked the Sadpora-Rafiabad highway for several hours.

 The Chairman of Kashmir Centre European Union, Barrister Abdul Majeed Tramboo, addressing a press conference in Brussels, today, said that the efforts were on to impress upon the world community to convince India to allow investigation into mass graves, repeal all black laws including the Armed Forces Special Powers Act and to ratify the conventions against torture and enforced disappearances in occupied Kashmir.
