Int’l crimes tribunal to probe hr abuses in IHK demanded

Srinagar, April 18 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, pro-liberation leaders and High Court Bar Association have urged the Amnesty International to use its influence for the constitution of an international crimes tribunal to conduct probe into enforced disappearances, unmarked graves and arbitrary arrests of youth by Indian army and police in the territory.

The demand was made by members of High Court Bar Association, headed by its President Mian Abdul Qayoom and a delegation of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front-R in their separate meetings with a two-member visiting team of the Amnesty in Srinagar.

Liberation leader Javed Ahmad Mir also met the team.

The APHC leaders including Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Zafar Akbar Butt, Shakeel Ahmad Bakhshi, Shaikh Muhammad Yaqoob and Yasmeen Raja in their separate statements paid glowing tributes to the renowned Kashmiri liberation leader, S Hameed on his 14th martyrdom anniversary, today.

The APHC AJK chapter in its meeting, chaired by Mehmood Ahmad Saghar, also paid homage to the liberation leader.

Indian police put APHC leader Mukthar Ahmad Waza under house arrest in Islamabad town to prevent him from addressing a function on the occasion of martyrdom anniversary of the martyred leader in Srinagar.

Scores of people took to streets against the house raids and atrocities committed by Indian police and paramilitary forces in the occupied territory, particularly in the Kulgam district. The protesters assembled at Bugam market and chanted anti-India and pro-liberation slogans.

An Indian trooper committed suicide by shooting with his service rifle at Malti Post on the LoC in Poonch district. This raised the number of such deaths amongst the Indian troops and police personnel to 239 since January 2007
