Kashmiris seek return of power projects from India

Srinagar, June 13 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, people staged protests seeking return of power projects from India’s National Hydroelectricity Power Corporation (NHPC).

Students of different educational institutions, industrialists, religious leaders and Employees Joint Action Committee members staged a sit-in on the call on Kashmir Centre for Social and Development Studies (KCSDS). The KCSDS is spearheading the campaign to seek return of power projects to the occupied territory and safeguarding water resources of the territory.

Talking to media men, Director KCSDS and noted academician Prof Hameeda Nayeem said: “the battle for return of power projects would continue till our demands are met.”

Former president of Federation of Chamber of Industries Kashmir Syed Shakeel Qalandar said that cross-section of the society heeded to their call. “The response shown by people should serve as a wake up call for the present dispensation. It should immediately initiate the process to take over the possession of power projects from Indian NHPC,” he said.

“The regime led by Omar Abdullah also needs to put a vociferous demand for compensating the losses incurred due to IWT and Thein Dam project,” Qalandar added.
