Over 100 injured, four serious in hospital
Srinagar, February 3 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, at least 100 people were injured in violent actions of the Indian police and paramilitary troopers on Tuesday, while Kashmir Valley observed a complete shutdown against the killing of a teenager, Wamiq Farooq, who was killed on Sunday evening after being hit in the head by a tear smoke canister fired by a policeman near Gani Memorial Stadium at Rajouri Kadal.
Thousands of policemen and paramilitary troopers were deployed in all sensitive areas of the city. The troopers who were patrolling the roads and had placed barricades at several places not allowed more than four persons to assemble at a place.
However, defying restrictions, youth took to roads at Gojwara, Rajouri Kadal, Naid Kadal, Zainakadal, Khankah, Safakadal, Ali Kadal, Maisuma, Red Cross Road, Barzulla, Chanapora, Natipora, Hyderpora, Batamaloo, Rambagh and adjoining areas staged pro-freedom and anti-India demonstrations were demanding punishment to the killers of 7th class student. The cops fired tear smoke shells and resorted to heavy baton charge to disperse the youth in which 45 people including Shafiq Ahmad, Mohammad Arif and Ghulam Hassan were injured including four youth stated to be in a serious condition in the hospital.
The residents of Rainawari said that CRPF personnel barged into the residential houses, smashed windows and beat the inmates. “The CRPF men ransacked our household goods and beat many people. The CRPF men even thrashed people at mourning meeting at Wamiq’s residence,” said a resident of Chana Muhalla Rainawari, who was among the mourners at Wamiq’s residence.
The Indian policemen and paramilitary force used brute force and fired teargas shells injured dozens of the pro-freedom demonstrators in Baramulla, Sopore, Shopian, and Islamabad areas.
Locals of Malaknag in Islamabad said that the troopers went berserk and barged into several houses, smashed the windowpanes, ransacked the household goods and beat up the inmates including women and children. »
