7 dead after passenger van plunges into gorge in IIOJK
Srinagar: As the dilapidated conditions of roads in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir have become a pressing concern, a passenger vehicle, today, met with a tragic accident in Baramulla district, leaving seven people dead and eight others seriously injured.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the ill-fated vehicle rolled down into a deep gorge in Boniyar, Uri area of district.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Traffic Rural Kashmir, Ravinder Paul Singh, confirmed the unfortunate event, stating that the bodies of the deceased have been recovered, and medico-legal formalities are currently underway. The injured victims have been transported to a hospital in Baramulla for medical attention.
The territory’s challenging terrain coupled with the lack of proper infrastructure maintenance has resulted in poorly maintained roads, riddled with potholes and uneven surfaces. These hazardous conditions pose a serious threat to the safety of commuters, making navigation perilous. Today’s tragic incident in Baramulla serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for comprehensive road maintenance initiatives.
