Mirwaiz placed under house arrest, barred from delivering sermon
Srinagar: Authorities have placed Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest, preventing him from delivering a sermon at Naqsband Sahib on the occasion of Khawaja Digar, a significant event in the Islamic calendar in Srinagar, Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, this is the fifth year in a row that the Mirwaiz has been barred from attending the gathering, which is an important tradition for Kashmiri Muslims.
The Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid in a statement condemned the move, calling it a blatant interference in religious affairs and demanding that the authorities lift the house arrest and allow the Mirwaiz to fulfill his religious obligations.
