Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference has raised grave concerns over the rapidly worsening human rights situation and the rise of state-sponsored terrorism in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, in a statement issued in Srinagar, APHC spokesperson, Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas, said India is systematically violating international laws and conventions in the territory. He highlighted the Indian use of oppressive measures to suppress dissent and the continued denial of basic rights to the Kashmiris.
Minhas emphasized that the Modi government’s unilateral actions post-August 2019, including the revocation of Kashmir’s special status, have exacerbated human rights violations. He criticized the use of draconian laws like the Public Safety Act (PSA) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) to arrest and detain Kashmiris, particularly targeting youth, journalists, and human rights activists.
The occupied territory, he stated, has seen a significant increase in arbitrary arrests and harassment of anyone voicing opposition to the government’s policies.
The APHC also condemned India’s military presence in IIOJK, which has now surpassed one million troops, operating under the cover of black laws. These forces, the APHC said, are involved in widespread human rights abuses including extra-judicial killings, enforced disappearances, torture, and the sexual abuse of women. The APHC called these actions a form of state terrorism aimed at crushing the Kashmiri people’s struggle for self-determination.
According to the statement, Kashmiris are enduring a life devoid of basic human rights, with the territory described as a “hell” for its inhabitants since the revocation of Article 370 in 2019. The APHC urged the international community to take immediate notice of India’s actions and press for a resolution to the Kashmir dispute based on the aspirations of the Kashmiri people, in line with international law and UN resolutions.
The APHC also reaffirmed its position that Kashmir is not an internal matter of India but a global issue that requires urgent attention. The statement called on the United Nations to fulfill its moral obligation to address the Kashmir dispute and demanded that global powers stop ignoring the ongoing suffering of the people of IIOJK.
The APHC’s statement concluded with a call for the resolution of the Kashmir issue in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people to ensure lasting peace in the region.
