Muslims forced to bury dead in homes in BJP-ruled Haryana state
Chandigarh: Muslim residents in the BJP-ruled state of Haryana are being forced to bury their deceased within their own homes due to the absence of a designated cemetery.
According to Kashmir Media Service, over 50 Muslim families in Gudana village, Charkhi Dadri district, are facing severe hardships due to the lack of a graveyard. The situation has grown increasingly dire, prompting villagers to plan protests. They have announced their intention to bring deceased family members’ bodies to the authorities’ doorsteps if no solution is provided. “We cannot continue to bury our dead in our yards,” said one resident.
The absence of a cemetery has led to the widespread practice of living among graves. Many residents have expressed discomfort at being surrounded by the graves of their loved ones. “It feels unnatural. We are living among graves, and it is deeply unsettling,” said one villager.
The Muslim community in Gudana feels isolated and neglected as authorities have failed to act. “We are tired of empty promises. Our demand is simple – a dignified place for our dead to rest,” said another villager.
The situation has caused significant emotional distress. One villager recalled waiting three days to bury his elderly relative because no burial space was available. “We had no choice but to bury her in our yard,” he said, reflecting the anguish felt by many.
The crisis in Gudana highlights broader issues of dignity and human rights. The community remains united in its demand for a permanent solution. “Our fight is a call for justice and respect for the basic rights of the people in Gudana village,” said another resident.
Despite multiple appeals to local authorities and ministers, the community’s request for a proper cemetery remains unresolved.
