Religious suppression in IIOJK: Authorities block Yaum-e-Ali procession in Baramulla

Srinagar: Authorities in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir once again suppressed religious freedoms by preventing the traditional Yaum-e-Ali procession in Mirgund area of Baramulla.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the Baramulla district administration imposed strict restrictions in Mirgund and surrounding areas on the pretext of security concerns, effectively halting the procession on the 21st of Ramadan. The procession was further disallowed due to the recent ban on Ittihad-ul-Muslimeen, led by Maulana Masroor Abbas, the organization traditionally responsible for the event.

The occupation authorities also sealed off all entry points to Imambargah Hazrat Abbas and the venue for the Majlis, urging residents to comply with the orders, threatening strict action against violators. This decision sparked outrage among the Shia community, who viewed it as a violation of their religious rights.

Maulana Masroor Abbas Ansari who usually leads the procession and delivers sermons on the occasion was placed under house arrest. He said, “This is a historic procession that predates the inception of Ittehadul Muslimeen”. He further said that restrictions were imposed even a day before the scheduled event, preventing devotees from offering night prayers during the sacred Shab-e-Qadr nights. “This is deeply saddening and regrettable,” he added.
