Eight Kashmiris arrested for alleged pro-freedom social media activity in Srinagar

Srinagar: Indian police have arrested eight Kashmiri youth in Srinagar district for allegedly using social media to promote pro-freedom narratives.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the individuals were detained for sharing content on social media that reportedly glorifies pro-freedom activities—a claim frequently used by occupying authorities to justify repressive measures in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

The arrested youth were identified as Zuhaib Zahoor, Abrar Mushtaq, Farhad Rasool, all residents of Srinagar, and Sajad Ahmad Lone, a resident of Kulgam, while the other four detainees were juveniles.

Critics argue that such crackdowns are part of a broader effort to suppress dissenting voices and limit the freedom of social media users expressing opinions that challenge the fabricated narratives promoted by the Indian state.
