Mirwaiz condemns authorities for denying Kashmiris to offer Eid prayers in Srinagar’s Eidgah, Jamia Masjid

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, All Parties Hurriyat Conference senior leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has strongly condemned the authorities’ decision to once again denied the Muslims of Kashmir the basic right to offer Eid prayers at Eidgah and Jamia Masjid in Srinagar which have been closed down and detained him at his home.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement issued in Srinagar said, Even at the peak of militancy during 1990s Eid prayers were offered at Eidgah, so now when huge claims of “normalcy “ are made everyday by the authorities, why are Muslims being kept away from their religious places and practices? What is the agenda? Is the collective identity of Kashmiri Muslims a threat to the rulers?”

He said Eidgah and Jamia Masjid belong to the people and barring them from these sacred spaces even on Eid reflects an oppressive and authoritarian approach that prevails in Kashmir today.
