Indian troops kill woman tribal leader in Chhattisgarh
Raipur: Indian forces have killed a woman tribal leader in the disturbed state of Chhattisgarh.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the tribal woman leader was killed during a cordon-and-search operation in a forest along the border of Dantewada and Bijapur districts, located in the state’s Bastar region. The victim was reportedly associated with the Communist Party of India (Maoist).
The killed woman has been identified as Renuka, alias Chaite alias Saraswati, a resident of Warangal district in Telangana.
An officer stated that the operation, which began on Monday night, involved personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). He alleged that the slain woman was the media chief for the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee, which he described as the strongest Maoist formation.
With this latest operation, the death toll of tribal individuals in the state this year has reached 163. The Communist Party of India (Maoist) and other civil society groups have condemned these killings and called for an international investigation. It should be noted that Maoist guerrillas have been fighting for independence from Indian rule for a long time.
On Saturday, 16 suspected Maoists were killed in a gunfight with security forces in the state’s Sukma district.
