IIOJK authorities again place Mirwaiz under house arrest in Srinagar

Srinagar : In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the authorities have once again placed All Parties Hurriyat Conference senior leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest at his residence in Srinagar today and have not allowed him to offer Friday prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the Anjuman Awqaf of Jamia Masjid, Srinagar, in a statement strongly condemned the continued house arrest of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and the ban on his peaceful duties and religious responsibilities. The statement said that this undemocratic and hostile attitude of the authorities towards Mirwaiz is causing great suffering for the Muslims of occupied Kashmir.

During his detention, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement on the social media platform X said his detention and the ban on offering Friday prayers at the Jamia Masjid are a clear sign of the occupying authorities’ fear and frustration.

He said at a time when difficulties are rapidly increasing for Muslims across India after the passage of the controversial Waqf Bill, and it seems that now Muslims will also need permission from the Indian authorities to offer prayers in mosques and bury in graveyards.
