Relentless land grab in IIOJK: India seizes more Kashmiris’ properties in Ramban
Jammu: In yet another instance of India’s systematic land grab in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), police authorities have seized agricultural land measuring 10.18 kanals, belonging to two Kashmiris, in Ramban district.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the properties, registered in the names of Mohammad Sharief from Dalwah village and Mohammad Younis from Mohra Hara village, were seized under the draconian Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in connection with a fabricated case.
Sharief owned 7.03 kanals while Younis possessed 3.15 kanals. An official alleged, without evidence, that the two individuals were involved in activities “threatening India’s sovereignty and integrity.” “The attached properties have been recorded in revenue records, and notices were served prohibiting their sale or transfer,” he said.
This is not an isolated case in the district. In February, Indian police similarly attached 23.13 kanals of land belonging to five other Kashmiris, Saraj Din of Sangaldan, Reyaz Ahmed of Dalwah, Farooq Ahmed of Banj Bhimdassa, and Mohammad Ashraf and Mushtaq Ahmed of Moila, under the same pretext.
Since the Modi government revoked IIOJK’s special status in August 2019, India has intensified its economic warfare against Kashmiris, confiscating hundreds of properties, including homes, agricultural lands, and businesses. The ultimate goal is twofold: economically cripple the local population while facilitating the influx of non-local Hindus to alter the occupied territory’s demography.
