Waqf bill also passed by Rajya Sabha despite strong protests from opposition
New Delhi: Despite strong protest from the opposition, the Bharatiya Janata Party government’s controversial Waqf (Amendment) Bill and the Muslim Waqf Abolition Bill have been passed in the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian parliament.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the Modi government had introduced both the bills in the Lok Sabha, lower house of the Indian parliament, yesterday, which were passed.
The amendments proposed by the opposition in the Lok Sabha were rejected.
Members of the opposition parties had proposed amendments to almost every clause of the bill, but all these proposals were rejected.
In the Rajya Sabha, 128 votes were cast in favour of the bills, while 95 were cast in opposition.
In the Lok Sabha, 288 members voted in favour of the Waqf Amendment Bill, while 232 members voted in opposition.
