Over 83,000 domicile certificates issued to non-locals in IIOJK in two years, Modi regime admits
Jammu: Over 83,000 domicile certificates were issued to non-locals in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir in the past two years, it was admitted by the occupation authorities during the question hour in the Assembly.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the revelation was made in a written response to a question raised by Peoples Democratic Part lawmaker Abdul Waheed Parra.
However, analysts say that actual number of domicile certificates issued to non-locals by the authorities is in several hundred thousands.
The total number of domicile certificates issued in the occupied territory during this period stands at 35,12,184.
The disclosure, although overshadowed by the commotion in the House, has reignited concerns among local political parties.
The question hour was swiftly consumed by fierce protests from National Conference legislators over the Waqf Act, with repeated sloganeering and interruptions. Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather initially attempted to continue with proceedings but eventually adjourned the House for the day.
The latest domicile figures are expected to feature prominently in future debates, with opposition parties preparing to raise the matter again once the House resumes functioning.
