Kanhaiya Kumar, 20 other Congress leaders detained in Bihar
Patna: Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar and 20 other party leaders were detained by Patna Police while attempting to march towards the residence of Bihar Chief Minister and BJP ally Nitish Kumar.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Kanhaiya Kumar was leading the ‘Palayan Roko, Naukri Do’ rally against rising unemployment in the state when the police intercepted the march at Rajapur Pul to stop them from reaching the Chief Minister’s residence.
“We have detained around 20 persons, including Kanhaiya Kumar, and taken them to Kotwali police station for legal proceedings,” said Krishna Murari, DSP, Central Patna.
Initially, the district police tried to disperse the demonstrators using water cannons, but failed as the protestors, including senior Congress leaders, stood their ground. As tensions escalated, physical altercations ensued, leading to a lathi-charge and the eventual detention of several protestors.
Despite the police crackdown, many Congress workers and supporters continued the march, attempting to push through barricades in defiance of police orders.
The situation in central Patna grew tense, with heavy police deployment and clashes between protestors and law enforcement.
Congress leader and former Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot also joined the yatra. Walking alongside Kanhaiya Kumar and other youth leaders, Pilot condemned both the Delhi and Bihar governments for failing the youth and mishandling employment-related issues.
