Protest in Jharkhand against Waqf Amendment Act

Ranchi: A massive protest was held in the state of Jharkhand today under the leadership of the Minority Rights Forum against the Waqf Amendment Act.

According to Kashmir Media Service, thousands of people from the Muslim community in Garhwa district took to the streets and took out a peaceful procession to express their anger and resentment against the policies of the Indian government. Former Minister Mithilesh Thakur was also present with the protesters.

The protesters marched from Majhian Mor to Town Hall Grand where a public meeting was held.

On this occasion, speakers said the Indian government is taking away the religious and historical rights of minorities.

Former Minister Mithilesh Thakur said that Muslims have constitutional rights over Waqf properties. Through this bill, the government is destroying the principles of the Constitution.

He warned that if the bill is not withdrawn, the movement will take a nationwide form. He said this is not just a matter of Waqf properties, but the Indian government is gradually trying to eliminate the autonomy of every religion. KMS
