Mirwaiz welcomes India SC’s interim relief on Waqf Act
Srinagar: All Parties Hurriyat Conference senor leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has welcomed the Indian Supreme Court’s interim relief on the Waqf Amendment Act, calling it a ray of hope for Muslims seeking justice against what he termed a discriminatory law.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a post on X said the apex court’s tough questions to the government regarding the Waqf Amendment Act and its interim direction — restraining the addition of new members to Waqf boards and stopping the denotification of ‘Waqf-by-user’ properties — was a positive step.
He expressed hope that the apex court would ultimately revoke the “biased and excessive” Act.
