Congress MP demands immediate restoration of IIOJK’s statehood
Jammu: Congress leader and Member of the Indian Parliament Syed Naseer Hussain has demanded the immediate restoration of full statehood to Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), questioning why the BJP-led Indian government has not set a clear timeline for its implementation.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Hussain made the remarks during his maiden visit to Jammu since being appointed Congress in-charge for IIOJK. Questioning the continuing delays in restoring statehood to IIOJK, he said: “We have always said statehood must be restored. Now that the government is in place, why is there a delay? We have already protested, and we will continue to fight for it.”
He further stressed that IIOJK must also be granted special status, similar to that enjoyed by hill states like Himachal Pradesh.
Naseer Hussain also stated that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge will write to Narendra Modi, urging the restoration of statehood in IIOJK.
He further highlighted the gap between official statements and ground realities in IIOJK, stating that the Indian government’s claims of normalcy and development are untrue, as people are still being killed there.
