Indian police officer resigns in protest against controversial Waqf Act
Patna: In a bold move, Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Mohammad Nurul Hoda has tendered his resignation in protest against the contentious amendments to the Waqf Act.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Hoda, who last served as Inspector General (IG) in the Railway Protection Force, cited the recent changes to the Waqf laws as a direct threat to the autonomy and heritage of the Muslim community.
His resignation has resonated deeply with growing unrest among Muslims across India who view the amendments as a systemic encroachment on their religious and communal assets.
Hoda is reportedly preparing to enter politics in Bihar, with strong indications of aligning with the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP).
His political journey, he says, will be guided by a commitment to educational reform, social justice, and the empowerment of marginalized communities, with a particular focus on Muslims in Bihar.
“This is not just a personal decision, but a call to stand up for those whose voices are being drowned out,” Hoda stated, emphasizing his resolve to bring structural change through democratic means.
