Mirwaiz pays glowing tribute to Allama Iqbal, expresses grief over losses

Srinagar: Senior All Parties Hurriyat Conference leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has paid rich tribute to the Poet of the East Allama Muhammad Iqbal on his 87th death anniversary, describing him as one of the greatest thinkers and visionaries of the modern Muslim world.

According to Kashmir Media Service, in his message issued in Srinagar, Mirwaiz said that Allama Iqbal’s message, rooted deeply in the philosophical essence of the Holy Qur’an, remains an enduring source of inspiration not just for the people of the subcontinent but for the entire world.

He said Iqbal’s philosophy is anchored in unwavering faith in Allah and the awakening of self-awareness — Khudi — a concept that encourages inner strength, moral courage, and spiritual elevation.

Mirwaiz noted that Iqbal consistently emphasized the ideals of compassion, love, tolerance, and universal human values. He stressed that in today’s deeply challenging times, there is a pressing need to reflect upon and practically embody Iqbal’s teachings — particularly his calls for self-realisation, devotion to truth, service to humanity, and a deeper understanding of the Divine.

Meanwhile, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives and property due to the cloudburst in Ramban. He urged the authorities to ensure swift rescue, relief, and rehabilitation for the affected families. Mirwaiz also appealed to people living in vulnerable areas to remain alert and follow safety guidelines.

Anjuman Sharie Shian President Agha Hassan Al Moosvi Al Safvi in a statement also expressed grief over the loss of Ramban cloudburst incident.
