Indian govt admitted security lapse over Pahalgam incident: Kharge

Bengaluru: Indian Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has said that the Indian government admitted to a security lapse in connection with the attack in Pahalgam, in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Kharge, while speaking at a function in Bengaluru, said that Indian Home Minister Amit Shah acknowledged the security lapse as the cause of the attack during an all-party meeting held on April 24. He pointed out that despite the implementation of a three-phase security mechanism, the Indian government failed to ensure the safety of tourists visiting IIOJK.

Mallikarjun Kharge also flayed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not attending the all-party meeting on the Pahalgam incident. He said leaders from all political parties, including himself and the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, were present at the meeting.

“The first question I raised in the meeting was that when the government convenes a meeting, the Prime Minister should be present. Since he was not, we said it was not right,” Kharge stated.

The Congress President said the Prime Minister’s attitude towards the all-party meeting was inappropriate, especially when at least 26 people lost their lives and many others sustained injuries.

He also criticized Modi for prioritizing an election rally in poll-bound Bihar over the meeting. “You go to deliver your election speech in Bihar. If he (Modi) is not attending the meeting, then it means that he is not serious about it,” Kharge added.
