Tension grips Madhya Pradesh after Hindutva mob torches Muslim homes

Ujjain: Tensions have gripped Madhya Pradesh, India, after a Hindutva mob associated with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Bharatiya Janata Party torched many Muslim houses in Ujjain city.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the attacks on Muslim houses were made after Hindutva activists made a video viral on social media showing a Hindu girl with a Muslim youth.

An enraged Hindutva mob, supported by Hindu organisations, including RSS, BJP and Bajrang Dal, launched an attack on the homes of Muslim families, accusing them of engaging in ‘love jihad’ – a term used by these groups to allege that Muslim men are involved in converting Hindu women to Islam through romantic relationships.

The mob stormed the homes of Muslims and pelted stones. The situation deteriorated further when the houses were set on fire. Other properties belonging to Muslim families in the city were also attacked, leaving residents fearful for their safety.

Instead of taking an action against the attackers, police detained seven Muslim youths.
