Senior APHC leader calls for de-escalation amid India-Pakistan tensions
Srinagar: Authorities in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir have once again placed senior All Parties Hurriyat Conference leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest in Srinagar, preventing him from offering Friday prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid.
According to Kashmir Media Service, in a post on X, the Mirwaiz said that the authorities had confined him to his residence, thereby barring him from offering congregational Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid in the old city.
He urged India and Pakistan to de-escalate the situation to prevent destruction. “I urge both the countries to urgently de-escalate and not to tread on this dangerous path, which can only lead to destruction,” he said.
Mirwaiz expressed deep sorrow over the ongoing violence and the loss of civilian lives. “As the threat of war intensifies and the loss of precious lives continues, deep sorrow and anxiety grips our hearts,” he wrote. He said the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir were facing the brunt of the tensions between India and Pakistan.
Referring to his house arrest, he said, “Though not allowed by authorities to go to Jamia Masjid today, I join in spirit with every soul praying for Aman-o-Amaan (peace and safety), and asking Allah to protect us, avert further bloodshed, and guide us toward peace and wisdom.”
