UN Secretary General hails India, Pakistan ceasefire announcement
United Nations: The United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres has welcomed “all efforts to de-escalate the conflict”, as India and Pakistan agreed to an immediate ceasefire.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for the Secretary-General talking to media said, “We are monitoring but we welcome all efforts to de-escalate the conflict.”
The US-brokered ceasefire came hours after India and Pakistan attacked each other’s military facilities, dangerously escalating the ongoing conflict.
Meanwhile, Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti in a video welcomed the ceasefire and said India and Pakistan should resolve their issues and find ways to establish permanent peace.
“This is good news for the people of J-K, who have been suffering because of the cross-border shelling for the last few days. I am sure the news has brought a sigh of relief across the border,” she said.
“Military solution is no solution. Ultimately, there should be a political intervention,” she added.
