Hindutva extremists desecrate Quran, Islamic literature in Karnataka; protest held

Bengaluru: Hindutva extremists desecrated several copies of the Holy Quran and other Islamic literature in the Indian state of Karnataka.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the incident took place in Santibastwad village in the Belagavi area, where worshippers discovered the sacred texts missing during morning prayers. A subsequent search led to the discovery of the charred remains of Quran copies and two Hadith books in a nearby field.

The Muslim community, along with members of civil society, staged a strong protest against the heinous act, demanding immediate action against the culprits.

Protestors, including local residents, raised slogans in favour of Islam and marched towards the deputy commissioner’s office, calling for the immediate arrest of those behind the desecration.

Reports said the protest lasted for approximately two hours and was called off after police officials assured the demonstrators that the culprits would be apprehended within three days.

Yusuf Mujawar, a resident of the village, urged the authorities to identify and punish those responsible. He also criticised local political leaders for not visiting the site, stating that they are neglecting the Muslim community.
