Pak-India war proves Kashmir is a nuclear flashpoint: GA Gulzar

No durable peace, development possible without Kashmir solution: APHC

Srinagar: All Parties Hurriyat Conference vice chairman Ghulam Ahmad Gulzar has said that the present war between India and Pakistan has once again brought the two countries to the brink of nuclear war, warning that continued neglect of Kashmir dispute could lead to a large-scale death and destruction in South Asia.

According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC vice chairman Ghulam Ahmad Gulzar in a statement in Srinagar while terming the ceasefire between the two Pakistan and India a welcome step, warned that India’s Jingoism, belligerence, rigidity, and warmongering will have a devastating effect and catastrophic consequences for millions of human beings living in the region.

“The war hysteria not only results in more poverty and starvation but will further intensify the arms race,”he said adding that India and Pakistan have fought many wars over Kashmir in the past, and this dispute may result in a horrible conflict that will affect the entire world. The present conflict has proven that that Kashmir is a nuclear flash point that must serve as an eye-opener for the international community.

APHC vice chairman emphasized that no peace and development is possible without durable, honorable, and just resolution fo the Kashmir dispute. He further stated that it is an undeniable fact that Kashmir is neither a border dispute nor a territorial issue, but a case of right to self-determination. It is an internationally recognized dispute, and there are over a dozen UN resolutions that call for a free and fair plebiscite under UN supervision.

“The most viable solution to this oldest unresolved dispute is the implementation of these UN resolutions in letter and Spirit.” To materialize this, he suggested the tripartite dialogue among India, Pakistan and the genuine leadership of the Kashmiri people. He said that Kashmiris are the basic party to the issue, and no durable and just resolution is possible without their participation.

While welcoming the US mediation offer, Gulzar impressed upon India and Pakistan to start meaningful, time-bound, and result-oriented dialogue for the resolution of core issue of Kashmir. He appealed to the UN, world powers, especially OIC countries, to help resolve the core issue of Kashmir, which is a bone of contention in light of UN resolutions and in accordance with the wishes of the Kashmiri people.

Meanwhile APHC leader Abdul Samad Inqilabi, in a statement strongly condemned the killing of three innocent Kashmiri youth by Indian troops in a fake encounter in Shopian. He said the youth were first arrested and later martyred during a staged operation in Shukroo-Keller area.
