Muslim Sudanese student stabbed to death in India

Phagwara: A 25-year-old Sudanese student was stabbed to death and another critically injured in Punjab state.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the student, Mohammad Wada Bala Yousuf Ahmed, was stabbed to death and another Ahmed Mohammad Nour Ahmed Hussen was critically injured in Punjab state near a private university in Phagwara, sending shockwaves through the international student community in BJP ruled state India.

The incident occurred in the Green Valley locality near Law Gate at Maheru Village — a residential hub for international students, SSP Gaurav Toora told reporters.

According to the FIR registered at the Satnampura police station and as per the statement of the injured student, Ahmed Mohammad Nour Ahmed Hussen, he and the victim, Mohammad Wada Bala Yousuf Ahmed, were returning from morning prayers with two Sudanese female students when they were stopped by a group of Indian Hindu men. The group allegedly began harassing the women and demanded their mobile phone numbers.

When Mohammad Wada and Ahmed intervened in the matter to defuse the situation, the attackers turned violent.

According to Ahmed, two of the assailants were armed with knives and stabbed both Sudanese students in the chest. The attackers fled after the assault. The injured were taken to a hospital where doctors declared Mohammad Wada dead on arrival, while Ahmed was admitted in a serious condition.
