Martyrdom anniversary of Mirwaiz Molvi Farooq to be observed in Srinagar
Srinagar: The 35th martyrdom anniversary of prominent Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Molvi Mohammad Farooq will be observed with great reverence and respect in Srinagar, Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mirwaiz Molvi Mohammad Farooq was martyred on May 21, 1990 by unidentified gunmen who shot him at his residence in Srinagar.
Senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference and Chairman of Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid, Srinagar, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has announced a series of programmes to commemorate the anniversary of his father’s martyrdom. The events will begin on Sunday, May 18, and continue until May 21.
On May 18, a Quran recitation and Tilawat competition will be held at 11:00am at the historic Jamia Masjid, Srinagar, under the auspices of Anjuman Auqaf. On May 19, the Mirwaiz Foundation will organize a blood donation camp at Ganj Bakhsh Park, Nowhatta, Srinagar, at 11:00am.
On May 20, Anjuman Nusrat-ul-Islam will host a seminar at 10:00am at the auditorium of Islamia Higher Secondary School, Rajouri Kadal. The seminar is titled: “Building a Drug-Free Kashmir – The Role of Students and Society.” Finally, on Wednesday, May 21, Fateha Khawani (prayer gathering) will be held at 10:30am at the Mazar-e-Shuhada (Martyrs’ Graveyard), Eidgah, Srinagar.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has urged the people to participate in these commemorative events and pay homage to Mirwaiz Molvi Mohammad Farooq and all other martyrs of Kashmir with full devotion and respect.
