NC, Congress reiterate demand for IIOJK statehood restoration
Srinagar: With the situation gradually returning to normal in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) following a retaliatory attack on military installations by Pakistan, the National Conference (NC) and the Indian National Congress have reiterated their demand for the restoration of statehood to the occupied territory.
According to Kashmir Media Service, NC chief spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq urged Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the aspirations of the people of IIOJK. “Warm greetings to the people of Sikkim on their Statehood Day. We humbly urge PM Narendra Modi to also grant IIOJK its rightful place by restoring its statehood. Our aspirations must be respected and promises fulfilled,” Sadiq, who is also a Member of the Legislative Assembly, posted on X.
The Congress, an alliance partner in the IIOJK government, has also announced plans to resume its campaign for the restoration of statehood. The party stated that it would soon re-launch its movement in support of this demand. “From day one, we have been demanding that statehood be restored at the earliest,” said Ravinder Sharma, chief spokesperson of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee. “It is an injustice to the people of IIOJK that the restoration of statehood continues to be delayed.”
Sharma added that although the party had earlier initiated a campaign on the issue, it was paused due to the recent situation. “We will resume it soon,” he confirmed.
