Rich tributes paid to Mirwaiz Molvi Farooq, Abdul Ghani Lone and Hawal martyrs in Islamabad
Islamabad: All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter, in collaboration with the Kashmir Liberation Cell, paid glowing tributes to prominent Kashmiri liberation leaders, Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq and Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone, and the martyrs of Hawal on their martyrdom anniversaries, today, in Islamabad.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the ceremony, held at Kashmir House in Islamabad, was presided over by APHC-AJK Convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi, with AJK Minister Madam Taqdees Gilani as the chief guest.
Speakers on the occasion lauded the sacrifices of the martyrs and reaffirmed their commitment to continue their mission to its logical conclusion at all costs. They strongly condemned the atrocities committed by Indian occupation forces in IIOJK, stating that Kashmiris are being subjected to a bloodbath, thousands have been killed in extra-judicial executions, subjected to enforced disappearances, and horrific torture, while a large number of political leaders and activists remain unlawfully imprisoned.
They denounced India’s demographic engineering in the occupied territory through property seizures, home demolitions, and the issuance of domicile certificates to non-Kashmiris. Speakers described IIOJK as an open-air prison where basic human, civil, and religious rights are crushed, the media is muzzled, and voices of truth are silenced.
Calling the Kashmir dispute a nuclear flashpoint, they urged the United Nations to move beyond statements and implement its resolutions in line with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. They warned that the unresolved dispute remains a threat to regional and global peace. “The conflict between the two nuclear-armed South Asian neighbors can spiral into a catastrophic war at any moment”.
The participants praised the Government of Pakistan, its armed forces, and the people for their strong stance against Indian aggression, reaffirming that Kashmir is Pakistan’s jugular vein. Operation Bunyan-e-Marsous, they noted, has once again brought the Kashmir dispute to international focus. Congratulations were also extended to General Syed Asim Munir on being named Field Marshal.
The gathering called on the international community, human rights bodies, and the OIC to break their silence and take meaningful action against Indian repression and in support of Kashmiris’ right to self-determination.
Among the participants were Madam Shaheen Kausar Dar, Mushaal Malik, Mehmood Ahmad Saghar, Syed Faiz Naqshbandi, Syed Yousuf Naseem, Altaf Hussain Wani, Shamim Shawl, Muhammad Altaf Bhat, Hassan al-Banna, Shaikh Abdul Mateen, Raja Mohammad Aslam, Afsar Khan, Najibullah Ghaffor, Imtiyaz Wani, Javid Iqbal, Haji Mohammad Sultan, Shaikh Mohammad Yaqub, Engineer Mushtaq Mehmood, Abdul Majeed Lone, Mohammad Shafi Dar, Mian Muzaffar, Shaikh Abdul Majid, Mohammad Ashraf Dar, Syed Gulshan, Adeel Mushtaq, Choudhary Shaheen, Manzoor Ahmad Dar, Zahid Mujtaba, Kurshid Mir, Ghulam Nabi Butt, Raja Parvaiz, Mohammad Aslam Malik, Nazir Karnai, and others.
It is worth mentioning that Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq was martyred by unidentified gunmen at his residence in Srinagar on this day in 1990. On the same day, seventy mourners were killed when Indian troops resorted to indiscriminate firing on his funeral procession in Hawal area of the Srinagar city. Twelve years later on this day in 2002, Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone was assassinated by unknown attackers when he was returning after addressing a gathering at the Martyrs’ Graveyard in Srinagar.
