India laying foundation for first nuclear war over water, Bilawal

Washington: Former foreign minister and head of the diplomatic delegation Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that India is laying the foundation for the first nuclear war over water by suspending the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari addressing the Middle East Institute in Washington, said in this era of climate challenges, water scarcity and water wars were previously just a theory but now India is laying the foundation for the first nuclear war on water by blocking Pakistan’s water.

He said blocking water will be tantamount to an act of war. He said, “This is a matter of our survival. Any country in the world, no matter how big or small, or whatever its power or capability, will definitely fight for its survival and its water.

He said that India should abide by the Indus Waters Treaty and take a strong stand to prevent other countries, including the US, from violating this treaty. He said India cannot allow this precedent to be established in the context of Pakistan, because we will definitely fight the first war, but it will not be the last. “If India is allowed to block our water, it will mean that every upstream country that has differences with the downstream country will get a free pass,” he added.

Bilawal Bhutto said, “If we want to make negotiations and diplomacy for peace successful, if we want to talk to India, have a positive dialogue with India, make new agreements, even maybe new treaties, then it is necessary for it to first abide by the old agreements and withdraw its decision regarding the Indus Waters Treaty.

He criticized the Indian government and said that the Modi government refused to cooperate on terrorism and rejected Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s offer of cooperation in the investigation of the Pahalgam attack. He also rejected US President Donald Trump’s mediation attempt on the Kashmir dispute and wasted opportunities for further talks.

Bilawal said all this means that there will be more terrorism, more wars and no peace. He said the Indian Prime Minister and his government may want to hand over their people to this fate, but we do not want that, which is why he and his delegation will go from capital to capital with only one message that is peace.

He said, “If India and Pakistan work together, we can eliminate terrorism from South Asia, India and Pakistan can together create a conducive environment in Kashmir where Kashmiris can see prosperity free from oppression, it is essential for cooperation between India and Pakistan that water flows freely, and this becomes a precursor to wider cooperation.”
