Fake news severely damages Indian media’s global credibility: Arab Times
New Delhi: The international reputation of Indian media has been severely damaged due to the widespread dissemination of fake news, according to a recent report by Arab Times Online.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the report, highlights a growing crisis of credibility in Indian journalism, worsened by a steep decline in professional standards. The report also notes that rising nationalism in India has pushed the media toward sensationalism and falsehoods, placing its global credibility at serious risk.
During periods of heightened Indo-Pak tensions, several Indian TV channels aired fake footage and even clips from video games to falsely portray military victories, actions that misled the public and undermined media ethics.
The Arab Times warns that Indian media has increasingly become a tool to propagate government narratives, thereby losing its independence and impartiality. Press freedom in India is under serious threat, the report adds, with both local journalists and international observers viewing Indian media as a growing danger to democracy.
The concept of a free and transparent press is becoming increasingly blurred in India, as journalism appears to have succumbed to political agendas. The rise of fake news and sensationalist reporting has not only exposed the failures of Indian media but also severely eroded public trust posing a grave concern for any democratic society.
