Power, water crisis deepens in IIOJK as hundreds of engineering posts remain vacant
Srinagar: As the people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir endure an intense summer marked by severe water and power shortages, the authorities have failed to fill up hundreds of vacant posts of the Engineers in the water and power departments of the territory. This neglect is a reflection of troubling indifference towards the basic need of the population.
According to Kashmir Media Service, essential public services seem to be not a priority for the occupation administration as currently there are 802 vacant posts of Engineers from Junior Engineers to Chief Engineer level in the Jal Shakti (water) Department. Similarly, the Power Development Department and its allied Corporations have 861 unfilled engineering positions.
This significant shortage of manpower has severely hampered the ability of these departments to maintain consistent and reliable services. As a result, the people of IIOJK are bearing the brunt of frequent and prolonged power outages, with some areas experiencing blackouts lasting over 12 hours. The erratic power supply, in turn, is adversely affecting water distribution, compounding the crisis and leaving many without adequate access to water.
The failure to fill these essential posts has turned basic amenities into a daily struggle for the residents of IIOJK, exposing the hollow claims of development and progress in IIOJK post abrogation of Article 370.
