Five people killed as makeshift bridge over river collapses in India’s Pune
Pune: Five people were killed when a makeshift bridge over a river collapsed in the Pune city of Maharashtra state.
According to Indian media, 15 to 20 people on the bridge are feared to have been swept away by the river due to the collapse.
People had gathered on the bridge to watch the rapid flow of water. There were 100 to 120 people present when the bridge collapsed. The bridge could not bear the weight of the people and collapsed into the river.
Indian media say that 20 to 25 people are buried under the debris of the bridge as a result of the collapse.
Rescue operations are underway at the scene of the accident, and several people who were swept away by the floodwaters have been rescued.
