Indian forces launch CASO in Jammu
Jammu: Indian troops launched a massive cordon and search operation (CASO) in Jammu district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), further intensifying the atmosphere of fear and surveillance in the territory.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the Indian forces carried out extensive searches in the Bhagwati Nagar area, which serves as the Amarnath Yatra base camp, situated along the banks of the Tawi River in Jammu.
Officials confirmed that the operation involved the use of sniffer dogs, metal detectors, and high-tech surveillance equipment. The search was concentrated in the parking area and on the approach roads leading to the base camp.
Troops also combed the riverbanks adjacent to the camp as well as several nearby buildings, disrupting the normal routine of local residents and creating panic in the area.
It is pertinent to mention the 32-day Hindu pilgrimage, known as the Amarnath Yatra, is scheduled to begin on July 3 via two routes — the traditional 48-km Nunwan-Pahalgam path in south Kashmir’s Islamabad district and the 14-km shorter but steeper Baltal route in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
The intensified militarization around the Yatra base camp has drawn criticism from local rights observers, who view it as part of the ongoing strategy of repression and control under Indian occupation.
