Kupwara residents protest against apathy of occupation authorities
Srinagar: Residents in Kupwara took to streets against the growing apathy of the authorities toward the basic needs of the people in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, hundreds of protesters including women and children assembled in Kachiwara area of Handwara and blocked the Handwara-Wader road to protest against the authorities’ failure to to provide tap water for the last many months.
As a result, dozens of vehicles were stranded after the residents of Kachiwara village of Handwara, blocked the Handwara-Wader road.
The protesters blocked the road for almost one hour while chanting slogans against the authorities.
The protesting residents said that they were facing tremendous hardships due to the non-availability of water from the past several months.
“The authorities have miserably failed to provide water to us, causing immense hardships,” said a female protester. The protesters said that the department concerned has forced them to take to streets. “We have registered our protests numerous times in the past but nothing was done,” said another protester.
Later, a police party reached the spot and pacified the protesters following which they dispersed peacefully.
