NIA court issues proclamation notice against youth in Kulgam

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, an Indian court designated under the notorious National Investigation Agency (NIA) Act in Kulgam has issued a proclamation notice against a local youth from south Kashmir, continuing India’s policy of criminalising dissent and resistance under draconian laws.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the youth, identified as Zakir Ahmad Ganie of Mutalhama area in Kulgam, has been booked under various sections of the black law, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The court has reportedly given him 30 days to surrender before the authorities, failing which further legal action would be taken.

Before the proclamation, the court had already issued a non-bailable warrant against him. Police teams later pasted the order at his residence and in public places in the village.

Kashmiri political and human rights groups have long maintained that India is using its agencies, including the NIA, and harsh laws like UAPA, to suppress the political aspirations of the Kashmiri people and to target pro-freedom youth under the guise of “law and order.”
