Snowstorm partially damages nearly 100 houses in Kashmir’s Bandipora

Srinagar: A powerful snowstorm, accompanied by strong winds, swept through parts of Bandipora district, particularly the Gurez and Tulail areas, partially damaging nearly 100 residential and ancillary structures.

According to Kashmir Media Service, officials said the snowstorm struck the region on Friday evening and continued into the early hours of Saturday, disrupting normal life in the upper reaches of the district. The affected structures are spread across several areas of Tulail, with Abdullan village among the worst-hit. Local reports said heavy snowfall and gusty winds damaged rooftops and other portions of houses.

Deputy Commissioner of Bandipora, Indu Kanwal Chib, said authorities have reported no casualties or major structural collapses so far. She added that damage assessment is still underway and the number of affected structures may rise as surveys continue.

“At present, around 100 structures have been reported as partially damaged. Assessment teams are on the ground, and final figures will be known after detailed verification. No major damage has been reported so far,” she said.
