APHC-AJK strongly condemns sentencing of Aasiya Andrabi, aides as political vendetta

Islamabad : The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter has strongly condemned the sentencing of senior Hurriyat leader and Dukhtaran-e-Millat chief Aasiya Andrabi to life imprisonment and her associates Fehmida Sofi and Nahida Nasreen to 30 years each, terming it a blatant violation of justice, international law, and fundamental human rights.

According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC-AJK Convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi, in a statement in Islamabad, said that the verdict reflects political vengeance and is part of a broader pattern of repression and judicial misuse in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He said fabricated cases and harsh sentences are being used to suppress the Kashmiri people’s legitimate struggle for their UN-recognized right to self-determination.

Safi said the Indian judiciary has failed to maintain impartiality in Kashmir-related cases and is increasingly being used to criminalize dissent and silence pro-freedom leadership in the occupied territory. He added that the sentences awarded to Aasiya Andrabi and her associates are clear evidence of this trend.

He emphasized that arrests, detentions, and coercive measures have failed to weaken the resolve of Kashmiris. “Such tactics cannot intimidate the leadership or the people, who will continue their struggle until its logical conclusion,” he asserted.

Urging global attention, Safi called on the United Nations, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, European Union, as well as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, to intervene, press for the release of Kashmiri political prisoners, and ensure an end to human rights violations in the territory.

He stressed that resolving the Kashmir dispute in line with UN resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people is essential for lasting peace in South Asia, warning that continued injustice risks further instability.

Reaffirming solidarity, Safi expressed full support for Aasiya Andrabi, her associates, and all Kashmiri political detainees, stating that Kashmiris remain steadfast and will continue their struggle with unwavering determination.
