Indian waging propaganda to malign Pakistan, create rift in Bangladesh: Analysts

Islamabad: Indian intelligence-linked networks, in coordination with elements of the Awami League, are engaged in a sustained propaganda campaign to implicate Pakistan in internal developments in Bangladesh and undermine its security institutions.

According to Kashmir Media Service, political commentators are of the opinion that Indian narratives have attempted to portray Pakistan as influencing the Bangladesh Armed Forces and targeting the authority of Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman. They said a coordinated disinformation drive was launched to depict the 2024 student uprising in Bangladesh as a Pakistan-backed coup attempt, a claim widely rejected in independent assessments.

Observers noted that fabricated reports and AI-generated deepfakes targeting General Waker-Uz-Zaman were circulated to create mistrust within the Bangladesh Army, including false allegations regarding facilitating foreign military access.

Bangladesh’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has also accused certain Indian media outlets of running disinformation campaigns aimed at portraying Pakistan as a destabilizing actor within Bangladesh’s security framework.

Analysts further pointed out that despite legal proceedings against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, India continues to provide her political space, raising questions about New Delhi’s commitment to bilateral agreements, including the extradition treaty signed in 2013. They said that during the February 2026 general elections in Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina allegedly used Indian platforms to question the credibility of the polls and call for the resignation of the interim government.

Observers maintained that India views any improvement in relations between Bangladesh and Pakistan as a challenge to its regional dominance and is therefore attempting to discourage economic and security cooperation between Dhaka and Islamabad. They added that such propaganda efforts are aimed at deepening mistrust, influencing public opinion and weakening prospects for regional stability and cooperation.
