Youth’s body found in Ganderbal amid rise in extrajudicial killings in IIOJK

Srinagar: Amid increase in the incidents of extrajudicial killings of Kashmiri youth in Indian Illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the body of an unidentified man was found in Ganderbal district.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the body was discovered in a power canal at Thune in Kangan area. Locals spotted the body and immediately informed the police, who took possession of it for medico-legal formalities. The police are trying to identify the deceased and investigate the circumstances leading to the incident.

Separately, a traffic police constable, Parvaiz Ahmad, was injured after being hit by a Tavera vehicle while on duty at Pantha Chowk, Srinagar. He’s receiving treatment at SMHS Hospital and is stable.

It’s worth mentioning that incidents of extrajudicial killings have increased manifold since the revocation of special status of Kashmir in August 2019. One of the latest incidents is the killing of Rashid Ahmed Mughal in a fake encounter by Indian troops in Arahama area of Ganderbal. The incident has sparked widespread protests and condemnation from various quarters.
