Hindutva leader assaults Muslim youth in Dehradun, raises fresh concern over minority safety

Dehradun: In yet another disturbing incident highlighting a growing climate of intolerance and impunity, a Muslim youth was brutally assaulted in broad daylight by a Hindutva leader in Dehradun, the capital of BJP-ruled Uttarakhand state, raising serious concerns over the safety and dignity of minorities in Modi’s India.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Bhupesh Joshi, who is said to be associated with a Hindutva outfit called Kali Sena, is seen in a viral video physically attacking a Muslim youth while making abusive and offensive remarks.

The video, shared by Joshi himself on social media, shows the youth being questioned before being violently beaten. Despite repeatedly denying the accusations levelled against him, the assault continues unabated.

During the incident, Joshi is heard making highly derogatory statements targeting Muslims. He accuses the youth of feeding beef to a Hindu boy, an allegation firmly denied by the victim, yet proceeds with the assault along with another accomplice.

The incident has led to anger and concern among the Muslim community, with serious questions being raised about the role and response of the police.

A local Muslim resident, expressing fear and anguish, said, “Such incidents create a sense of insecurity among ordinary people. No one should be subjected to violence without any proof.”

Observers say that such acts not only violate the law but also increase tension between communities and embolden extremist elements. Many have called for immediate action against those involved and proper protection for the victim.

A social worker in the city stressed, “The law must act equally for everyone. Violence and hate speech should not be ignored.”

As the video continues to circulate widely, there is growing demand for accountability, with citizens urging authorities to ensure that justice is delivered and that such incidents are not repeated.
