Srinagar: Senior All Parties Hurriyat Conference leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has strongly condemned the killing of a young Kashmiri in Ramban district, warning that the growing menace of cow vigilantism is now spreading to Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement said that the poison of cow vigilantism has reached occupied Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the death of 25-year-old Tanveer Ahmad Chopan, who was brutally chased and assaulted while ferrying a milch cow and two calves. He termed the incident highly condemnable and unacceptable, stressing that those responsible must be given exemplary punishment to nip this evil in the bud.

The Mirwaiz warned that failure to act decisively against such elements could have serious repercussions, for which those in authority would be held responsible. He expressed concern that such incidents threaten the social fabric of the region and could further aggravate tensions.

The killing has triggered widespread anger in Ramban district, where protests and shutdown were observed, with locals demanding justice for the victim and strict action against the perpetrators.
