Indian Naga village guard member killed in ambush in violence-hit Manipur

Imphal: A 29-year-old member of the Naga Village Guards (NVG) was killed in an ambush in violence-hit Manipur state.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the NVG member was killed when suspected armed cadres ambushed a patrol party of Indian forces near Sinakeithei village in Ukhrul district in the early hours of Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Horshokmi Jamang, a resident of Chatric Khullen village in Kamjong district.

In a statement, the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) said the attack occurred amid continued tension and armed movement along the Sirarakhong–Sinakeithei stretch. It added that members of the Naga Village Guards, deployed near Sirarakhong, were on routine patrol when they were ambushed by armed men operating under Suspension of Operations (SoO) arrangements. Jamang was killed at the spot in the attack.

Meanwhile, tension continues to grip in Manipur as a three-day shutdown called by the United Naga Council remains in effect.
