Farooq Rehmani voices concern over Shabbir Shah’s deteriorating health in Indian custody

Islamabad: Senior APHC-AJK leader and Chairman J&K People’s Freedom League, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani, has expressed grave concern over the deteriorating health of incarcerated Hurriyat leader Shabbir  Ahmad Shah, who has spent decades of imprisonment for advocating the Kashmiris’ right of self-determination.

According to Kashmir Media Service, in a statement issued in Islamabad, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani said that Shabbir Shah’s prolonged and illegal detention has taken a severe toll on his health, particularly in the last few years, due to inadequate medical care and lack of basic facilities in prison.

He maintained that the BJP-led Indian government, especially after its post-2019 Kashmir policy, has implicated Hurriyat leaders and other Kashmiris in concocted cases while also stifling media coverage regarding detained leaders and youth.

He further said that Kashmiri prisoners are being deprived of essential facilities, including proper healthcare, resulting in serious health complications among these detainees, including Shabbir Ahmad Shah.

Emphasizing the urgency of the situation, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani urged the Indian authorities to release Shabbir Ahmad Shah in view of his worsening health and to end the prolonged ordeal faced by his family.
