Washington: As part of a major crackdown on illegal immigration, US authorities have arrested 30 Indian nationals and initiated deportations proceedings against them.

According to Kashmir Media Service, all of the arrested individuals were working as commercial truck drivers in the United States. Reports said they were detained during a federal enforcement operation and are now being processed for deportation.

The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said in a statement that 52 individuals were arrested for illegally residing in the United States during “Operation Checkmate” conducted by Border Patrol agents in the Yuma Sector of Arizona. Of those detained, 36 were found operating semi-trailer trucks.

The agency further stated that 30 of the detained truck drivers were Indian nationals. It added that most of them had Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) issued under the previous Biden administration, which the current administration has now deemed invalid.

All detainees are being processed under federal immigration law and will be deported soon, the agency said.
