Muslim woman denied treatment over Hijab at Kanpur hospital in UP

Kanpur : A government hospital in Uttar Pradesh is facing scrutiny after a Muslim woman was denied treatment at Dufferin District Women’s Hospital for refusing to remove her hijab.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the woman shared a viral video stating that staff told her she would not be treated unless she removed her hijab completely, despite agreeing to show her face to female doctors for examination.
She questioned why her headwear was an issue when her identity could be verified through CCTV and other means. Hospital Chief Medical Superintendent Dr Ruchi Jain disputed the account, saying security is a priority at a women’s hospital and identity verification may be required. She denied meeting the woman.
The incident has sparked debate online over religious identity, women’s rights and hospital security protocols.
Legal experts note public hospitals must provide care without religious discrimination, while allowing reasonable security measures applied uniformly.
