NC’s main agenda remains restoration of Article 370, not statehood: Mehdi

Srinagar : In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, National Conference leader and member of Lok Sabha, lower house of Indian parliament, from Srinagar Agha Syed Ruhullah Mehdi has said that his political priority and party’s main agenda remain the restoration of Article 370 and not statehood.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Agha Rohullah Mehdi, while talking to reporters during his visit to Kulgam asserted that the party election manifesto is not to raise the issue of statehood but to campaign among the people on the issue of Article 370 and the constitutional rights of Jammu and Kashmir.

He said that restricting the political debate to the demand for statehood alone strengthens the Bharatiya Janata Party’s political narrative.

He said that he will continue to work for the aspirations and rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Agha Rohullah Mehdi maintained that although the National Conference had contested elections with the promise of restoring statehood, the larger constitutional question surrounding Article 370 should not be sidelined.

Reaffirming his political position, he said that he would continue to advocate for the constitutional rights, identity and democratic aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
